Lamination adds a thin film over a printed surface. It can change the finish and, with a suitable construction, provide an additional protective layer.
Matte versus gloss
Matte film reduces reflections and creates a subdued appearance. Gloss film can make reflections and colour appear more vivid. The final result depends on print, film and lighting.
How is it different from varnish?
Lamination adds a separate film, whereas varnish is a liquid coating applied and then dried or cured. Protection and flexibility depend on the exact construction, not simply the finishing name.
When should you request a sample?
For expected abrasion, moisture, chilled storage or chemical contact, assess the full stock–adhesive–film combination. Check total thickness and flexibility on curved containers.
