Raised or high-build varnish is a clear coating applied in controlled thickness to selected areas, then dried or cured to create a raised surface. It can add both shine and a tactile detail.
What does it look and feel like?
A logo, pattern or short text can receive a glossy, touchable layer. Height depends on varnish formulation, application method and substrate.
Is it the same as embossing?
No. Mechanical embossing changes the shape of the stock using dies. Raised varnish adds material on top of the stock. The effects may be combined but require different production planning.
Artwork and application
Supply a separate mask for the raised areas. Test very fine lines, large solids and frequently flexed packs; closely spaced elements may merge depending on application thickness.
