Varnish is a liquid coating applied to printed stock. Depending on formulation and application, it can produce gloss, matte effects or a measure of surface protection.
Full-surface or spot varnish
Full-surface varnish covers most of the print. Spot varnish is limited to selected elements such as a logo or pattern to create localised gloss–matte contrast.
What does UV varnish mean?
UV varnish cures under appropriate light. UV does not automatically mean raised relief or universal durability: coating chemistry and thickness affect the result.
Pre-production checks
Supply the varnish areas as a separate mask. Discuss tolerances for tiny type, fine lines and folding areas, and sample-test abrasion or curvature where relevant.
